Dimension 9 is a small innovative german indie game development studio which develops and publishes entertainment content for PC and Web using several game engines. The studio was founded 2021 by Captain Perl, who also serves as CEO / Lead Game Designer. Our goal is to create games with narrative-driven storytelling and much freedom for players.
Captain Perl has started his game programming long ago, with text adventures, at this time in BASIC, Turbo Pascal, 4GL and even COBOL. His game „The Troll“ became so big that it took the whole RAM of the computer. Its parser was able to understand whole sentences, not only the usual two word commands like other games of the time. Because of the size, it had to be redesigned but when it was ready, adventures with graphics were given preference. So this game still sits on a 5.25″ disk, somewhere in the cellar.
In later years, he designed several unique board games (and gave them away), wrote several RPG systems (and gave only the copies away 🙂 ) and used software development mainly for work.
In 2019, he went back to computer game development. Some engines were tested, some computers were prepared, much was learned.
